Private Sector Engagement
The private sector in Cambodia has the capacity to make a significant contribution to the economic prosperity and development of Cambodia, but only if the principles of responsible business conduct (RBC), business and human rights, transparency and accountability are upheld and implemented by themselves and related stakeholders, especially the government. The Cambodian Sustainable Development Goals (CSDGS) provide an agreed framework to promote responsible business conduct, and investment for inclusive growth in Cambodia, if realized. CCC has promote the participation of private sector in many dialogues particularly the multi-stakeholder dialogue on financing for development, and the dialogue on inclusive partnership for development.
While some CSOs in Cambodia have experience engaging the private sector by using relevant channels, knowledge of these mechanisms and the broader principles of business and human rights, responsible business conduct, remain low. CCC has made some efforts in promoting the connectivity with the private sector, both inside and outside the country.
Those included the recent adoption of CCC’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Responsible Business Conduct membership of CCC, the engagement of CCC in the Cambodia CSR Platform, the engagement of CCC in the ASEAN CSR Network, and the membership of CCC in the OECD Watch – a global network of NGOs working on responsible business conduct.
