500 Days Countdown First Campaign of Global Movementon Action/2015: JOIN US on CCC’s Facebook Page

Phnom Penh (August 5, 2014)"iMove: Against Corruption for Poverty Reduction" is the main theme launched at member bi-monthly meeting of Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC) in Phnom Penh to mark 500 days countdown towards finishing the Millennium Development Goal (MDGs) by the end of 2015.

Co-organized by CCC, the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), and the Transparency International Cambodia (TIC), the campaign aims to effectively amplify the voice from hundreds of related civil society organizations to raise awareness on their perspectives, commitment, and expectation regarding to post-2015 development in Cambodia.

Those related CSOs include youth NGOs committing and being interested in corruption issue, local and international NGOs, informal groups, grass-root organizations, trade unions, government, private sector, development partners, and other interested individuals.

The campaign will also place stronger emphasis on the status of corruption in Cambodia and how everyone can move together to action against corruption and contribute to poverty reduction.

Mr Soeung Saroeun, Executive Director of CCC, said that the national iMove campaign is part of the regional events of Action/2015 Asia which includes iMove initiatives against injustice, inequality, and insecurity. “Cambodia is conducting iMove to combat corruption in line with its current challenging context”, he added.

“Participation from government and individuals in efforts to eliminate or reduce corruption will assist to ensure the development of the socio-economy, culture, and a sustainable environment and Cambodians will live in a dignity and integrity country (Cambodia) by 2030,” he said.

Ms El Sotheary, Head of Program of CCC, noted that iMove would involve social activities and public forums to spread the key messages, adding that the goal of iMove is also to educate, reduce corruption, get the attention of authorities, and make relevant development actors holding accountability to their constituents.

The iMove campaign opens for organizations, individuals from different sector, national and sub-national level to participate in different activity. It will also be kicked-off in Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Thom, Svay Rieng, and Preah Vihear with other different methods and activities such as bicycle riding, running, submitting joint statement to relevant bodies, promoting through social media, drawing or photo contest…, etc. CCC is the focal point of this national campaign.
