We work in a range of sectors: Governance, NGO organizational strengthening, agriculture & sustainable livelihoods, law and justice, disability and maternal/child health. Volunteers are currently located in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang, Takhmeo & Ratanakiri. AVI also manages a Midwifery Education Program linked to capacity-development of midwifery teachers and students through a partnership with University Health Sciences through an Australian Aid funding mechanism. We also deliver the PACE program which is a student internship program that brings Macquarie University students (senior years) in the law and disability sector in Cambodia for period of 2 to 3 months. AVI’s provincial focus is compatible with the Cambodian government’s continued push for decentralisation and deconcentration through participatory local development.

Since 1984, Australian Volunteers International has maintained an uninterrupted, diverse and dynamic program in support of Cambodia’s recovery following the devastation of decades of war. Since the beginning to the current numbers, over 400 Australian Volunteer assignments have been undertaken through AVI in Cambodia. AVI has been sending volunteer advisors to over 30 countries around the world since 1951
