WDO is a Cambodian faith-based organisation with 6-years experience in facilitating social, economic, and personal development within poor rural communities. The project approach is through working in partnership with a CCG elected community representatives, who are responsible to organize the wider community in a process of assessment, analysis and planning in order to address specific needs.
The Wholistic Development Organisation originated from the Food, Income generation, Agriculture, Training and Health (FAITH) Project. The project was initiated by Southeast Asian Outreach (SAO) in 1999 following a period of research and assessment. It was envisioned as a pilot project to test existing and new strategies for encouraging and enabling local Christians to be involved in their communities in a developmentally sound and contextually relevant way. In 2000 SAO merged with the NGO International Co-operation Cambodia (ICC), which has remained the parent organisation as the FAITH project has evolved. The ICC-FAITH project (pilot phase 2000- December 2005) currently operates in 20 villages in four provinces. Based on the recommendation of the mid-term evaluation in August 2002, the FAITH staff decided to localise the project to become a faith-based local non-government organisation. As an initial step towards localisation a 5-member advisory board was formed, with the intention that became a governing board on official registration with the Ministry of Interior.
Facilitating, training and demonstrating a model of sustainable wholistic community development for individuals, local churches and social development agencies.
Transformed Communities Everywhere:- Groups of Christians in Cambodia and beyond have enabled their community to know God, have strong social capacity and consequently live in peace and harmony.
