Overview
NEP is a membership organization of 85 NGO’s (49 Local and 36 International) providing educational services in Cambodia. NEP is led by an Executive Director, in consultation with a voluntary elected Board of Directors that devotes their time providing assistance, together with nine paid staff members and three VSO volunteers. NEP works in partnership with the MoEYS and holds seven (7) seats on the Joint Technical Working Group on Education (JTWG-ED), and Education Sector Working Group (ESWG). NEP functions as a coordination role to facilitate the link between its own members and between members, development partners and the MoEYS in education policies, particularly NSDP, ESP/ESSP, to name a few. Since its inception, NEP has been working in partnership and cooperation with the development partners and MoEYS in order to accelerate the education reform process in Cambodia. NEP also participates in the NGO Forum Committee for the CDCF Joint Monitoring Indicators. As part of our work with this monitoring committee, NEP writes the Education Sectoral Paper for the quarterly and annual NGO Statement to the Cambodian Development Cooperation Forum (CDCF) in Cambodia. NEP is also a member of the Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC).
Background
The NGO Education Partnership (NEP) was established in August 2002, as a result of a proposal from the Education Sub-Sector Working Group on NGO relations with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS). The intention of the Ministry was to increase the efficiency of communication with education NGOs and to extend their involvement in the education reform process. Since its inception in 2002, NEP membership has grown from seventeen (17) to eighty five (85). Initially, member organizations were predominantly headquartered in Phnom Penh. However, over the past two years, numbers of provincial based local NGOs applying for membership status with NEP has gradually been increasing. The provinces that our members located include Battambang, Kampot, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Kampong Speu, and Siem Reap, Pursat, Preah Sihanouk, Kratie, Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Odor Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Takeo.
