Overview

Global Children Cambodia empowers youth from underserved communities and orphanages through education, the arts, and moral development. We are building a brighter future for the next generation of children by providing scholarships for Cambodian orphans to study at a University in Phnom Penhn. Through our education, development and mentoring programs, we are investing in the kind of progress that truly gives Cambodians the tools they need to help themselves and to help one another. The students receive scholarships to Norton University in Phnom Penh where they have chosen to study a wide variety of subjects such as Information Technology, Economics, Business and even English Literature. Graduates of the GCC program often volunteer in their communities or through Global Children projects as either an educator or mentor, creating an upward spiral of empowerment. We are dedicated to helping the the people of Cambodia create prosperity, end poverty, and bring effective and ongoing change into their communities and their country. We are inspired by our students determination to succeed at higher education, and are humbled by their appreciation for the opportunity that Global Children has given them. This project is accomplishing more than we could ever imagine, and it is because of your generous support and contributions that we can continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and orphans in Cambodia.

Background

Global Children’s founder, Laura Tancredi, first visited Cambodia in 1990 as a high school student. After becoming exposed to the Cambodian culture in Phnom Penh, she immediately fell in love and grew an attachment with the children living in Cambodia’s Nutrition Center Orphanage. Despite the immense poverty and other challenges, the children at the orphanage remained positive, motivated, and hopeful – as if nothing stood in their way. This resiliency inspired Laura to keep returning to Cambodia, where she photographed the children’s inspiring life stories and offered her helping hand. Global Children soon became alive in her heart and mind. In 2000, Laura founded Global Children to improve the welfare of orphaned young adults through education, and the opportunity to both cultivate their knowledge and skills, and share their loving spirit with Cambodia’s future generations. Over the last 12 years, Global Children has acquired an 86% graduation rate with the 24 young adults who have entered our program. Within the last 4-5 years, 100% of our students have graduated. Global Children continues to provide an intellectual and motivating environment, allowing our students to become productive professionals and self-sufficient citizens. Today, Global Children has three Cambodian staff running the programs in Cambodia. Their incredible passion in assisting Khmer children is inspiring, as well as, their dedication to ensure our programs are culturally appropriate.
