Notice of Volunteer Opportunities

CamboJA is a politically-neutral membership network of Cambodian journalists and media professionals established in 2019. Our mission is to promote access to information and press freedom, strengthen the professionalism of journalists and support their livelihoods. The association is currently running three core programs such as CamboJA News, Research & Advocacy, and Capacity Development.

We are looking for a volunteer to join our dynamic team. Volunteer will spend at least six months on a full-time basis with CamboJA to support the following section of the association:

1. Research and Advocacy Program: 1 volunteer (full-time)

The research & advocacy program of CamboJA is working on the promotion of press freedom, freedom of expression and the protection of journalists. The works of this program included media rights monitoring and documentation, facilitating access to support services for journalists, and implementing advocacy actions to promote media freedom, safety of journalists, access to information, and freedom of expression.

Responsibilities of Volunteer

The selected volunteer will be assigned to assist Research and advocacy Officer and Research and Advocacy Manager in implementing various activities of the program for six-months period (starting from November 2022 until April 2023). He/She should be able to:

  • Assist in collecting and verifying information related to discriminations, harassments and all kinds of violations against journalists to make a comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date record of journalism situation
  • Provide support in conducting research studies related to journalism and freedom of expression
  • Assist in collecting and analyzing data based on M&E plans
  • Support in mobilizing supports from stakeholders for CamboJA’s responses to harassment/right violation cases against journalists
  • Participate in meetings and events organized by CamboJA
  • Participate in meetings with partners and donors when required
  • Arrange logistics as necessary for project/activity implementation
  • Assist in organizing workshops or events to promote and advocate for media freedoms, safety of journalists, access to information, and freedom of expressions

Eligibility

  • Must be a Cambodian citizen under the age of 35
  • Have strong interest in learning about project implementation
  • Be an undergraduate student (year-2/ year-3 student) or fresh graduate
  • Have basic understanding of local and international legal frameworks concerning freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and human rights
  • Have good interpersonal skills
  • Be willing to learn new things and adapt to fast-paced environment
  • Have basic English proficiency
  • Be a team player
