CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN Do No Harm Application Workshop

Background information

The Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC) is a leading membership organization in Cambodia. By March 2022, CCC has 187 International and Local NGOs as members and networking with NGOs and CBOs in 15 provinces, working on different development sectors in the country. CCC has been playing a unique role since 1990 in strengthening cooperation professionalism accountability governance of CSOs for effectively and innovatively responding to development challenges in Cambodia.

Do No Harmand Conflict Sensitive Program (DNH-CSP) has been implemented by CCC since 2015 with financial support from Bread for the World(BfdW). DNH is one of the key working approaches of CCC’s Governance Hub Program (GHP). The current phase of DNH-CSP is a 3-year project from 01 January 2021 to 31 December 2023.

Goal of the program: CSOs in Cambodia are enabled to avoid negative impacts in their development programs.

Objectives of the program: 1)-The inter-group relationship/collaboration between different actors (dividers & connectors) in the communities is improved; 2)-Program interventions of NGOs in Cambodia have integrated conflict sensitivity/DNH framework wherever it is relevant; and 3)-DNH trainers have facilitated a high quality of DNH training.

From the start of project in January 2021 to April 2022, 108 participants (51 females) from 60 organizations were trained on DNH concept through participating in 2-day DNH Exposure Workshops. Many of these participants were interested to conduct DNH Application Workshop in their respective organizations.

Seeing the demands of the NGOs, CCC would like to call for participation in the 3-day Do No Harm Application Workshops in between June and November 2022.

Participants use DNH approach to analyze their Strategy/Program/Project. They can identify Dividers and Connectors in their context and generate programming options to improve their impacts on Dividers and Connectors. A DNH framework will be produced at the end of the workshop.

  • Topics of the course
  • Revisit DNH history and lessons
  • Apply 7 Steps of DNH process:
    • Step 1: Understand the Context of Conflict
    • Step 2: Analyze Dividers and sources of tension in the context
    • Step 3: Analyze Connectors and local capacities for peace in the context
    • Step 4: Understand the critical details of the intervention
    • Step 5: Analyze the intervention’s impact on Dividers and Connectors through its Actions and staff Behavior
    • Step 6: Generate programming Options
    • Step 7: Test options and redesign the intervention
  • Mainstreaming DNH into the project/program cycle

DNH Application Workshop was designed for face to face interaction. This workshop offers participants the opportunity to apply the skills and tools they have learned to their own program/project. Participants should prepare for this workshop by bringing with them a program/project document or proposal. If this is a multi-organization workshop, each organization should prepare a single project. In a single organization workshop, multiple projects can be prepared, and participants can be divided into project teams.

  • In 2022, the DNH Application Workshop targets a maximum of 15 NGOs whose management/staff have joint the DNH Exposure Workshop.
  • Selection criteria, process and timeline will be jointly designed by CCC and DNHC team.
  • NGOs who applied for the DNH Application Workshop will be selected by recruitment committee.
